The experience was excellent. The hotel is very nice, clean and in a great location. The breakfast is good and plentiful. The staff is friendly and helpful, they helped us book an IBIS near the airport as we had to leave early in the morning. Absolutely the best IBIS where we have stayed.

We spent three nights here and had a nice time. The hotel has stylish and modern decor throughout. Our room was in like-new condition with all the amenities we expected. The breakfast was high quality, and the staff were polite and accommodating. I would stay here again.

Great City Centre Hotel

A really comfortable and nicely located hotel. I was given a complimentary upgrade to a top floor balcony room with great views of the city and onwards to the Forth of Firth. Very clean and with a good buffet breakfast. Will definitely use again when I return to Edinburgh.

I stayed here with family this last week. The hotel was ok, smart looking bar area but no formal reception area. Just a desk with some laptops and a couple of staff at them. You walk into the bar area which is, also, the lounge and reception area. More on than that later. Rooms were ok but dirty in places and really small for the price you pay. Location is excellent, looks right out into the centre of Edinburgh and the tram stop is so close by. It’s perfect. I’m rating the service poorly because the reception staff were a little rude and impatient at times. I think they are overworked by management because as well as working reception they are tripling up as bar staff and waiters. From time to time, you’ll see them buffing tables one minute then checking someone in the next. I doubt they are paid for three jobs so no surprise they are impatient with people at times. Management should do better for their employees. On the bar area, my family and I went down for dinner on Thursday night. There was one guy working the bar - with support sometimes from “reception staff” - and one guy working the kitchen. We ordered food, nothing fancy, and it took 30 minutes to arrive. It was fine but not fresh and very overpriced for what it was. Wouldn’t recommend the food at all. Drinks were nice and the barman was very friendly to us. Recommend the Paolozzi beer. When we were dining and drinking, there was a young fellow playing live music. He was excellent. He played REM, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and many more. It was the best set of live music I’ve ever heard. Chilled out classic acoustic covers, a drink and my family. It was lovely. The singer’s name was Calum, I asked for his card. If you’re staying here then make sure you check out the live music on a Thursday night. If the other musicians are half as good as Calum, you’re in for a treat. The big flaw with the bar area is that there are no toilets. You have to go all the way down to the basement to use a disabled toilet. When I went down, the toilets were in a disgusting condition and I got lost on the way back to the bar/reception/lounge area because there were so few signs to direct you. The toilets were probably in such bad condition because the cleaner is doubling up doing another job somewhere else in the hotel. In all, great location but you can probably find a better hotel or BnB for the same price with better staff and nicer rooms. If you’re in town, swing by for the live music on Thursdays.

It is gratifying to hear that you found our location to be excellent, perfectly situated for enjoying the heart of Edinburgh and the convenience of nearby transport links. However, we regret to hear about the concerns you experienced; our unique layout with a more open reception area is designed to create a welcoming atmosphere, and our rooms are maintained with great care, reflecting the historical nature of our building which was converted to a hotel. Whilst this hotel used to be a historic bank building, we have done the upmost to create a cozy atmosphere in the bar and pardon us that we couldn't squeeze a toilet on the same floor. Regarding our service, we strive to provide a personal touch and assist our guests with all their needs. Please be assured that our team is dedicated to hospitality, even when multitasking, which can be challenging at peak times, but it is always easy to judge from the outside. I am upmost struggling to see how we fell short with you with our staff, even so that if you look at the other reviews, our service is always one of the strongest points from all the reviews, but yours. The dining experience is an important part of a hotel stay, and we are sorry to hear that it did not live up to your expectations on this occasion. Nonetheless, we are delighted that you enjoyed the live music provided by Calum – his performances are indeed a highlight for many of our guests. We also note your comments regarding the toilet facilities and will look into this matter to ensure they are maintained to the high standards we set for ourselves. Your remarks are invaluable as they help us to improve our service, and we truly hope to have the chance to better serve you in the future, however, would have been a way fair step from yourself to have a chat with any of the management team whilst you were at the hotel, rather than grabbing the keyboard to express your disappointment. We had an incredible 4 nights stay here and we loved every minute of it. The staff is really doing their utmost to make our experience unforgettable. Especially Mercedes, who helped us several times. The breakfast is delicious and the guys in the bar are super friendly.
